COMMUNITY MESSAGE: Warsaw Police Celebrates 25 years Teaching Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) in Warsaw Schools.
The Warsaw Police Department D.A.R.E. ( Drug Abuse Resistance Education) division is proud to announce their 25th anniversary teaching the D.A.R.E. program in Warsaw Community Schools. For the past 25 years, highly trained police officers have been teaching good decision-making skills to help students lead safe and healthy lives.
The Warsaw Police Department started the D.A.R.E. program in 1988. The program has continued to grow and continues to bring a cutting edge curriculum to students. The curriculum is a scientifically based program. D.A.R.E. is the national symbol for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program which, in partnership with police officers, parents, and schools, is in use throughout the United States.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation’s school districts and in more than 43 countries around the world.
D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through twelfth grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
There are numerous reasons for D.A.R.E.’s success. Its unparalleled delivery system utilizing law enforcement officers as instructors and the fact that it was the first program of its kind anywhere in the world have individually and collectively played a critical role in D.A.R.E.’s growth and expansion. However, to remain relevant and effective, it requires much more; it requires the critical review and substantive contributions of highly respected experts in the field of education, science, and law enforcement. It also needs the intelligent comments and recommendations of the program’s audience – school children.
