Facebook posts about children's book salesperson attempting to lure or kidnap children. FOUND TO BE FALSE.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department has received information about numerous Facebook posts referencing a salesperson selling children’s books in Pasadena and Glen Burnie. Some of the posts suggest the person is only posing as a salesperson and that your children's safety is at risk.
The Intelligence Unit has investigated this claim and found it to be FALSE. They have identified a legitimate business that employs independent contractors, usually college students, to sell educational books, software and website subscriptions in a direct marketing door-to-door method.
Although the salesperson may appear to be pushy and may ask questions about children, this is a known sales tactic and there is nothing to indicate any type of scam or criminal activity.
Here are some suggestions when dealing with door-to-door solicitors:
1) You can advise the salesperson it’s a "no sale" and to leave your property.
2) If they fail to leave, call 911 to report a trespassing complaint.
3) For yoru safety, never allow any unknown person into your home.
4) Keep your door locked. Converse through the door or through a window.
5) If the salesperson wants to leave informational material or a business card, have them leave it outside and retrieve it at a later, safer time.
6) Have your cordless or cellular phone with you anytime you do answer the door.
