A uniformed Montclair crossing guard struck by a vehicle while in the crosswalk holding up a stop sign.

On Thursday, September 12, 2013, at approximately 7:43 a.m., a crossing guard wearing a safety vest and holding up a stop sign was struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk, located in the 5100 block of Orchard Street. The crossing guard was thrown from the vehicle as the vehicle left the scene without stopping. The crossing guard was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years of age, driving a grey four-door Honda.

Update:

Later that same evening, Detectives from the Montclair Police Department located the hit and run vehicle in the 5100 block of Holt Boulevard. The vehicle was unoccupied when it was located and registered to a residence in the City of Montclair. The registered owner has been identified, but is not a named suspect at this time. Detectives are having the vehicle processed for finger prints and DNA. The driver of this vehicle is still wanted in questioning regarding a felony hit and run investigation.
