Young Promoted to Lieutenant to Serve as District Commander for ISP Toll Road

On Monday, September 16th, 2013, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter announced the promotion of Sergeant Mike Young to the position of Lieutenant to serve as District Commander of the Toll Road which covers seven counties: Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Saint Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange and Steuben.

Young, a Steuben County native and graduate of Prairie Heights High School, was appointed to the department in December 1990. Young holds a bachelors degree from Manchester University where he majored in sociology and criminal justice.

Young was assigned to the Toll Road where he worked Lake/Porter Counties for twelve years before being promoted to Corporal in 2002. He received his second promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 2005 which he served in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Saint Joseph and Elkhart Counties.

During this time Young has been a Field Training Officer (FTO) for newly hired recruits; a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) which is an officer who receives specialized training and has been certified to evaluate and determine if a person is drug impaired. Young also served on the North Zone Emergency Response Team (ERT) for twelve years.

Lieutenant Young resides in Porter County with his family.
