Media Release
September 24, 2013
On Monday September 23, 2013 at approximately 5:30pm, the Thurmont Police Department became engaged in a pursuit of a wanted subject. Through previous encounters, the subject was known as: James Kevin Myers, age 51. Mr. Myers was paroled on August 8, 2013 for First Degree Rape and Assault with intent to Commit Rape. While on parole and living with his brother and sister in law in Thurmont, Mr. Myers had threatened to rape his sister in law and harm his brother. A Protective Order was issued and served on Mr. Myers earlier on September 23rd to remove Mr. Myers from his brother’s residence. At approximately 5:00pm, a Thurmont Police Officer confirmed that a Parole Retake Warrant had been issued for Mr. Myers. When the officers located Mr. Myers in the area of Rt. 77 and Rt. 15 and attempted to stop him, Mr. Myers attempted to elude the officers by traveling southbound on Rt. 15 at a high rate of speed. Mr. Myers crashed his vehicle in the median on Rt. 15 at Motter Avenue. He was transported to Shock Trauma where he was treated and released. Upon his release, the Thurmont officers transported him to the Maryland Reception Diagnostic and Classification Center in Baltimore where he will continue to be held.
