Foot Pursuit Lands Man in Jail
Elkhart County - A traffic stop Tuesday evening was anything but routine when the driver bolted from his vehicle after he was stopped by an Indiana State Trooper.
Yesterday, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Master Trooper Judy Kubsch stopped the driver of a silver 2004 Ford for disregarding a stop sign on Ash Rd at CR 12. As Kubsch attempted to determine the identity of the man, he jumped out of his vehicle and ran into the woods north east of the intersection.
Officers from the Indiana State Police, the St. Joseph County Police Department, and the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene in an effort to track down the subject. The police saturated the area and eventually received a phone call from a resident at 10286 Edison Rd around 8:00 p.m. The homeowner stated that there was a man sitting on their porch that they didn’t know. Officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department responded to the house and arrested the subject without incident.
The man, Nicholas L. Compton, 32, of Elkhart, was identified by Kubsch and arrested on charges of resisting arrest and providing a false identity. Compton was taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
*All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
