TEXTING IS DISTRACTED DRIVING
Distracted driving is a serious traffic safety concern that puts everyone on the road at risk. In California, hundreds have been killed and thousands seriously injured as a result of at least one driver who was distracted. Nationally, an estimated 3,331 died in 2011.
Drivers who use hand-held devices are 4 times as likely to get into accidents resulting in injury. Drivers under 20 years old have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal accidents.
Alarmingly, studies have shown that texting while driving can affect a driver's reaction time to the same extent as driving while intoxicated. Here is a link to one study comparing texting and driving to drunk driving: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/texting-while-driving-how-dangerous-is-it-the-results-page-2
Don't become a statistic. Keep your mind on your driving and your hands on the wheel! Drive safe and stay alive.
