Spindale Police and the NCSBI are investigating a homicide which occurred on 09/28/2013 in the Town of Spindale. At approximately 1:30 AM, Spindale Police responded to a disturbance at Mingle City Sports Bar & Grill, 1495 US-74A, Spindale NC. Upon arrival a large number of subjects were exiting the building and attempting to leave the area. The responding Officer’s attention was called to a male victim lying on the ground near a vehicle adjacent to the building. The victim was found unresponsive and not breathing. Resuscitation efforts were begun on the victim by Officers and employees of the establishment. During resuscitation efforts it was discovered that the victim had suffered a single gunshot wound to the back of his neck. The victim was transported to Rutherford Regional Medical Center by Rutherford County EMS. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room a short time later.

The victim is Jeffrey Lee James, 43, of 156 Nebraska Street,
Spindale NC. Mr. James was an employee of the establishment and working security when the incident occurred.
