Three-vehicle accident
At approximately 7 P.M. on Friday, September 27th, 2013 the Columbia Township Police Department responded to Cement City Road and Dearmyer for a personal injury accident. On arrival, it was determined that three vehicles were involved in the accident.
A 1996 Jeep Cherokee with 6 occupants was westbound on Cement City Road, and turned left onto southbound Dearmyer Road, directly in front of an eastbound 2003 Ford Taurus. The Taurus was occupied only by the driver.
That collision caused the Taurus to collide with a 2013 Dodge Journey, which was facing northbound and stopped at the stop sign at Dearmyer and Cement City Road. The Journey was occupied by a male driver and female passenger, neither of whom were injured.
The six occupants of the Jeep ranged in age from 16 through 19. The driver was a 17 year old male resident of Cement City. Four of the six occupants were transported to Allegiance for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.
The driver of the Ford Taurus was a 22 year-old female resident of Clarklake. She was transported to Allegiance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The lack of serious injury is attributed in part to the use of seatbelts by occupants, as well as airbags deploying.
The accident is still under investigation, and charges are anticipated later this week.
