MEMBERS OF THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT CAPTURE SUSPECT RESPONSIBLE FOR NUMEROUS COMMERCIAL SMASH AND GRAB BURGLARIES IN ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
On September 20, 2013, at approximately 10:27 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police department received an alarm call from Parks Liquors located at 454 East Bay Front Road in Deale, Maryland. Officers arrived on scene and confirmed that a burglary to the business had taken place. With assistance from surveillance video, officers were able to learn that the suspect in this burglary was the same individual wanted throughout Anne Arundel County and the city of Annapolis for similar smash and grab burglaries.
A lookout was given to all districts and to surrounding jurisdictions. At approximately 12:03 a.m., Officer Duane Raynor of the Southern District was headed north on Muddy Creek Road, north of Galesville Road when he observed the suspect vehicle traveling northbound as well. Officer Raynor notified radio of the tag information and followed the vehicle until additional officers were in the area to assist with a traffic stop. The vehicle was stopped on Route 214 near Galewood Road and the driver was taken into custody without incident. The driver was wearing clothing that matched the suspect from the burglary and burglary tools were located with additional evidence inside of the vehicle.
The vehicle was secured on scene pending a search warrant. From the outside of the vehicle, partially under the passenger side seat, clothing was visible that matched clothing the suspect was wearing during the burglary at Park's Liquors and many other commercial burglaries throughout the county.
The suspect has been identified as David Edward Holland, 54, of 7996 Silent Winds Court in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
On September 24, 2013, all of the Anne Arundel County Police Department District Detectives supervisors and lead detectives along with Annapolis Police Detectives met at Anne Arundel County Police Headquarters in Millersville to discuss the open smash and grab burglaries. The investigation revealed that the suspect would burglarize small businesses during the overnight hours by using a tire iron to smash out the front door glass of businesses. The suspect would take money from the businesses and flee in a 1997 Kia Sephia. Evidence recovered from the vehicle during a search warrant revealed additional items linking the suspect to various burglaries. At this time, Holland has been charged with the following burglaries:
