Riley Fire Department Provides Tour and Demonstration to Karen's Kids First Year Preschool Class
The Riley Fire Department firehouse was overcome today with 22 3-4 year old students from Karen's Kids first year preschool class. Firefighters gave the students a tour of the firehouse explaining what firefighters do on a daily basis. Firefighter Dillon Massey then donned all of his firefighting equipment to show the students what a firefighter looks and sounds like when they go to put out a fire. Children are sometimes frightened when they encounter a firefighter in their full protective equipment. Explaining each part of the equipment to them helps them understand that they do not need to be frightened of a firefighter in their equipment. Following the demonstration, the students were given an opportunity to see a firetruck and even spray water from a fire hose! Student's left the firehouse with their very own fire hat, a bag containing a coloring book, and a variety of other fire prevention material.
