16 Year Old Attempted Murder Suspect Apprehended
On February 17, 2013, an attempted murder occurred behind the Safeway at Winchester Blvd and Budd Avenue. Campbell Police Investigators found that the victim had been stabbed multiple times in what appeared to be a gang related altercation. The investigation identified two suspects involved in the stabbing.
Rudolfo Vasquez, 21 years of San Jose, was arrested several days after the stabbing. He is currently in custody for attempted murder with gang enhancements.
Miguel Capetillo, 16 years of Modesto (15 years old at the time of the stabbing), was charged as an adult by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for attempted murder with gang enhancements. Capetillo fled the area and was believed to be eluding capture in Mexico.
In September 2013, Investigators developed information that Capetillo may have returned to the area. On Friday, September 20, 2013, Campbell Police Investigators tracked Capetillo to his parent’s house in Modesto. Capetillo was located hiding in the crawl space of the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
Capetillo was transported back to Santa Clara County and booked into Juvenile Hall.
Investigators believe that there were other suspects present at the time of the stabbing. The investigation is still on-going and the Campbell Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Campbell Police Department Investigations Unit at 408-871-5190.
