FPD Uses Music Video to Promote Non-Emergency Phone Line
9-1-1 for Life-Threatening Emergencies Only

Franklin, TN – Each day numerous callers dial 9-1-1 to reach Franklin’s emergency call center, many of which though, are for a non-emergency. These non-emergency calls tie up 9-1-1 lines and prevent those who have a life-threatening emergency from reaching a dispatcher. “I came up with some way of learning the non-emergency phone number,” said 4-year veteran Mike Fay, a Communications Officer with the Franklin Emergency Communication Center, who proposed the idea of a public service announcement to help alleviate the problem. “An officer was good enough to take what I wrote down and put it to music.” That officer was Jeff Carson, a 6-year veteran with the Franklin Police Department, and a former recording artist. Teamed together with fellow officers, Carson and Fay worked with Digital Media Specialist Stephen Price, a member of the City of Franklin Communications/Franklin TV team, who produced the music video.

“Encouraging citizens to use the non-emergency number for non-life threatening calls will allow someone whose life may be in danger to get the help they need,” said Officer Carson.

The catchy jingle, which will air on Franklin TV, can also be viewed on the City of Franklin’s YouTube page by clicking this link: http://bit.ly/GOpDxV.
