Fence installation scam targeting the elderly
At approximately 1:30 PM today, an elderly Hayden St resident (East of Farmington Rd. and north of Freedom Rd) was doing yard work in the front of her home when she was approached by a lone Hispanic male who told her that he needed to take measurements of the fence in her backyard to prepare for the installation of a fence in a neighboring yard. The resident escorted the man to her backyard where he began to take measurements and engage her in conversation. After a few minutes the man left in a black pickup truck.
After he left, the resident returned to the front yard where she observed that her front door was open. The resident recalled that she had previously closed this door. The resident became suspicious and checked the inside of her home. Upon doing so, she noticed that cash had been stolen from a bedroom.
Investigators believe that a second suspect entered the home to commit the theft while the first suspect acted as a decoy. There is currently no suspect information on the second suspect.
Suspect #1 description: Hispanic male, 30 years of age, medium height and medium build with facial acne. Last seen wearing blue jeans.
Suspect vehicle: Black pickup truck.
