Advisory

Early Morning Accident Closes Winchester Blvd / Sunnyoaks Avenue

On 10-13-13, at approx. 5:46 AM, CPD officers responded to S. Winchester Blvd and W. Sunnyoaks Avenue on a report of a traffic collision involving a solo vehicle into a power pole. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the driver of the vehicle. The driver was alert, conscience, and only had a complaint of pain. The driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.

It was determined that the vehicle was driving southbound on Winchester Blvd when it left the roadway and impacted a wooden power pole at the southwest corner of Winchester Blvd and W. Sunnyoaks Avenue. The impact caused the pole to be sheered in half causing it to hang from the attached power lines. The roadway for S/B Winchester and all of W. Sunnyoaks Avenue was immediately closed.

PG&E responded and determined that it was safe to open both northbound lanes of Winchester Blvd and one southbound lane. W. Sunnyoaks Avenue remains closed and will remain so until PG&E makes the necessary repairs. PG&E estimates that it could take up to 24 hours before the roadway is completely open. The southbound Winchester off-ramp from southbound San Tomas Expressway also remains closed.
