Stolen Vehicle Suspect Arrested by Granada Middle School in Whittier (Co.)
On October 15, 2013 at approximately 11:45 AM, a 17 year old juvenile suspect was arrested in the area of Granada Middle School in Whittier (Co.) after he crashed a stolen SUV and fled on foot. The suspect was first observed by deputy personnel driving at a high rate of speed in La Mirada. Shortly after, the Whittier Police Department received a citizen complaint of the same vehicle driving erratically in Whittier. As Whittier Police Officers and Norwalk Station Deputies searched for the vehicle, a Sheriff’s Department helicopter observed the driver of the stolen vehicle crash at Stamy Road and Woodcrest Drive. Ground personnel were directed to the fleeing individual who was then taken into custody.
At the time of this incident, Granada Middle School students were on a lunch break. As a precaution, the school immediately went on a lock down status for short time until the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect never came on campus nor was he in direct contact with any students.
