Franklin Cops Re-define “Serve & Protect” This a.m.; One Dozen volunteers moved public housing seniors into new homes

Franklin, TN – This morning, a dozen Franklin Police Department volunteers lent a helping hand to three elderly, public housing residents on moving day. The three left behind older units to move into a new senior residents’ building, the first major redevelopment project of the Franklin Housing Authority.

In an email to colleagues, Officer Clayton Cates rallied enough help to move three residents out of the old, and into the new. “I patrol this area every day, and have gotten to know some great people,” said Officer Cates. “The people who we helped today simply didn’t have the friends, family, or resources to get moved.” Cates’ email to fellow officers concluded with, “Grab a buddy and let’s try to help these people,” and a quote by Booker T. Washington, a legendary educator and civil rights activist, “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” Several of the officers supplied their own trucks and trailers for this morning’s move, and all three residents were moved into their new apartments in about two hours.
