2013 City of Maricopa Smoke Detector Walk makes immediate impact.

Maricopa, Ariz.
November 2nd 2013

Volunteers from the newly formed City of Maricopa Community Emergency Response Team and Boys Scouts of America partnered with the Maricopa Fire Department and the Arizona Burn Foundation for the city’s first ever smoke detector walk.

The walk, which took place in Maricopa’s Heritage District, provided smoke detectors for homes that were previously unprotected, had smoke detectors passed their expiration date, or were not equipped with the most up to date technology. Approximately 20 volunteers installed dual function smoke detectors donated by the Arizona Burn Foundation. In all, thirty-eight new detectors were installed and thirty-eight families can sleep well with the knowledge that their homes are now protected.

Volunteers met at fire station 575 for a safety briefing and instruction on how to inspect and install new detectors. The event took place from 9am to 12pm and included crews from Maricopa Fire and Police Department in the area providing support as necessary.
