SANTA ANA, CA (November 6, 2013) - The Santa Ana Public Library is pleased to present the Mexican film, Macario, starring Ignacio López Tarso and Pina Pellicer. A black and white classic, Macario was directed by Roberto Gavaldón and will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.
Set during México’s Viceregal era, Macario is the story of an impoverished woodcutter whose only desire is to have a turkey all to himself at least once in his lifetime. When he meets three apparitions, he makes a deal with Death, a decision that changes his life drastically.
Macario was the first Mexican film to be nominated for an Academy Award as the Best Foreign Film in 1961 and was also winner of the prestigious Golden Palm award at the Cannes Film Festival in France.
This screening is free to the public on Saturday, November 9th, 2013, at 1:00 PM, at the Santa Ana Public Library in Meeting Room A, located on the 2nd floor of the library. (Limited seating) Total runtime of the film is 91 minutes.
In addition, be sure to stop by the information desk at the Santa Ana Public Library and see the traditional Día de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) altar that has been created honoring Latin American authors who have passed on. The altar will be on display through November 12th.

La Biblioteca Pública de Santa Ana En celebración del Día de los Muertos Presenta la película Mexicana MACARIO
SANTA ANA, CA - La Biblioteca Pública de Santa Ana se complace en presentar la película mexicana Macario, protagonizada por Ignacio López Tarso y Pina Pellicer. Esta película en blanco y negro del cine clásico fue dirigida por Roberto Gavaldón y se presentará en español con subtítulos en inglés.
La trama ocurre durante la época del Virreinato en México y cuenta la historia de Macario, un leñador cuyo único deseo es, por lo menos una vez en su vida, disfrutar de un guajolote el solo. Cuando se encuentra con tres apariciones, hace un trato con la Muerte, una decisión que cambiara su vida drásticamente.
Macario fue la primera película mexicana nominada para un Oscar como la mejor película internacional del 1961 y fue ganadora del prestigioso premio francés Palma de Oro en el festival de Cine en Cannes, Francia.
Este evento es gratis y se llevará a cabo el sábado, 9 de noviembre del 2013, a la 1:00 de la tarde, en la Biblioteca Pública de Santa Ana –Sala de Conferencias A, localizada en el segundo piso de la biblioteca. (Asientos limitados) El tiempo total de la película es de 91 minutos.
Igualmente, no se olvide de visitar el Escritorio de Información en la Biblioteca Pública de Santa Ana y ver el altar del Día de los Muertos creado en honor a fallecidos escritores latinos. El altar estará en exhibición hasta el 12 de noviembre.
