Advisory

Early morning fire at Native New Yorker

Maricopa, Ariz
November 8th 2013

At approximately 1:45a.m.crews from the Maricopa Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Native New Yorker located at 21164 N John Wayne Parkway.

A single engine responded to the initial dispatch of a fire alarm indication with water flow through the sprinkler system. Upon arrival on the scene, the crew made entrance and found moderate smoke within the structure. The captain immediately called for additional assistance and upgraded the call to a working fire.

As additional crews arrived on scene, crews worked quickly to locate the source of the fire in the kitchen cooking area. After extinguishing the fire, crews inside the building worked in coordination with roof crews to expel all smoke from the building and limit any additional smoke damage. Personnel remained on scene to remove excess water and secure any potential hazards. The scene was then turned over to the restaurant manager as crews went back in service.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The business was closed at the time of this incident and no injuries were reported to citizens or fire personnel. The fire suppression and alert system performed as designed and provides an example of the effectiveness of properly installed and maintained sprinkler systems.
