At approximately 5PM Spindale Police responded to 135 Johnson Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival Officers found Dominique Fernanders, 16 of Prince Street Spindale suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left arm and torso. Fernanders was initially treated at Rutherford Regional Hospital and later transferred to Mission Hospital in Asheville NC.

Witnesses state that a 14 year old juvenile arrived at the residence carrying a single barrel shotgun. Following a verbal exchange between the victim, several other juveniles also inside the residence and the suspect; the suspect began trying to break down the front door of the residence. After failing to gain entry, he shoved the barrel of the shotgun through the window and fired into the residence.

The juvenile suspect fled the scene of the shooting on foot. A short time later, the father of the suspect returned him to the scene and turned him over to authorities. The father had also recovered the weapon used and surrendered it to Officers as well. The juvenile suspect has been charged with attempted murder and is in secure custody of juvenile authorities.
