RE: Update Kidnapping Investigation
On December 2, 2013 the Cannelton Police Department concluded its investigation into a kidnapping reported on November 7, 2013 in Cannelton.
Paul M. Lenz, had been arrested, after warrants were issued, for Kidnapping and Criminal Confinement.
The Cannelton Police Department continued with its follow-up investigation from that time.
During the course of the follow-up investigation it was determined that Cord M. Bennett, 20 of Cannelton, had fabricated the details of story. Bennett had learned that Lenz had fled from law enforcement earlier in the evening, while driving to Tell City. Upon learning this, Bennett became afraid of possible ramifications for assisting a criminal. As a result of this fear, Bennett admitted to the fabricating of the facts. Bennett admitted there was no firearm involved or threats made toward him.
As a result of the follow-up investigation, the Cannelton Police Department will be forwarding a report to the Perry County Prosecutor’s Office in regards to False Reporting or Informing.
The charges of kidnapping and criminal confinement have been dismissed against Paul M. Lenz.
