On December 02, 2013, Off-duty Deputies Tien and Velasquez were leaving the Pomona Superior Courthouse after testifying on un-related cases, when they saw a male Hispanic adult walking towards the front entrance holding an 8-inch butcher's knife in his hand.
Deputies Tien and Velasquez contacted the man who appeared to be extremely agitated refused to speak with them. After a couple of attempts to contact the man, the man yelled, "Are you guys going to take me back to prison? I need to go back to prison or I'll kill somebody!" Deputies Tien and Velasquez detained him at gunpoint and after speaking with the man for several minutes, they were able to convince the man to drop the knife and lay on the ground. Deputies Tien and Velasquez handcuffed the man and detained him until the arrival of Officers from the Pomona Police Department.
The male was later identified as 29 year-old Jeralme Gabe Cuevas, a Pomona transient. He is on active parole and told deputies that he was at the courthouse "Just to kill a cop."
The Pomona Police Department was notified, responded and took him into custody. He was arrested for Criminal threats, brandishing a weapon in a threatening manner, and held on $250,000 bail.
