Undercover Officers Detailed to Shopping Districts Arrest Theft Ringleader; Strategy, synergy make for good crime fighting
Franklin, TN – Police in Franklin cracked a shoplifting ring with ties to another middle Tennessee City. Franklin Police Flex Unit officers assigned to the Galleria spotted the suspect vehicle that had been featured in an earlier shoplifting suspect bulletin by Mt. Juliet Police. After stopping the vehicle, officers determined that the two occupants were part of a larger shoplifting ring, and had been instructed to drop the vehicle off in Franklin where it would be later picked up by the ringleader. Undercover officers set up on that vehicle, and arrested 30-year-old Courtney Brown of Madison after he showed up to get the vehicle loaded with $715 worth of stolen merchandise. Brown, charged with Felony Theft, was also found to be in possession of marijuana, crack cocaine, and Xanax. He remains in custody on theft and drug charges at the Williamson County Jail on a $25,000 bond. Brown is a convicted felon who was out of jail on probation at the time of this arrest.
“Marked patrols and covert surveillance operations are in full force in Franklin’s retail shopping districts,” said Chief David Rahinsky. “If you are engaged in criminal activity here, there’s a good likelihood that we’re going to detect and arrest you. Operations like ours, combined with the information sharing between other area law enforcement agencies, help to keep communities safe, and put criminals where they belong: behind bars.”
