AA County PD Press Release Southern District Area- Two commercial robberies & three arrested for theft of mail

Southern District
Mail Tampering Davidsonville
On December 12, 2013 at approximately 10:32 a.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Double Gate Court at Double Gate Road in Davidsonville. The vehicle was stopped for suspicious activity.

The suspects were stopped at a mailbox that had the mail flag in the upright position which is an indication of outgoing mail. The officers knew immediately that this vehicle, occupied by three individuals was not a postal vehicle.

Officers conducted an investigative stop due the recent mail theft cases that Southern District is experiencing. Upon contact with the suspects, officers noticed they were in possession of mail from a mailbox in the Arnold section of Anne Arundel County. Further investigation revealed that the mail was stolen.

Officers learned checks were stolen and they were able to recover a check that had not been opened yet. However an additional check was still outstanding.

All three suspects have been charged with theft over $1,000.00 and opening letter without permission. The suspect identified as James Dorsey was also charged with false statement and possession of marijuana.

A joint investigation with the United States Postal Inspectors is continuing. The Postal Inspectors and the Anne Arundel County Police recommend these Mail Theft/Identity Theft
