Toy Drive Collects Approximate300 Toys!

The Maricopa Fire Department, Professional Fire Fighters of Maricopa IAFF local 4561, F.O.R. Maricopa, and City of Maricopa hosted the city’s first annual “Ride for Toys” charity toy drive Saturday morning. Approximately 500 community members participated in the event that took place in the south parking lot of Pacana Park.

In return for donating a new, unwrapped toy guests received a 3 to 4 minute ride in a Maricopa Fire Department engine or truck, complete with lights and sirens. From newborns to great-grandparents event goers were all smiles as they returned from their journey. Riders were allowed to operate sirens and air horns as they drove through an unfinished subdivision of the Glenwilde community adjacent to the park.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were also featured at the event. Stationed in their North Pole Mobile Command Center Santa and Mrs. Claus posed for pictures, listened to Christmas wish lists, and kept note of who was naughty and nice.
