Update Crash into Old Leesburg Mill
Kosciusko County – Last Friday, December 13, Indiana State Trooper Brandon McBrier responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into the Old Leesburg Mill, in Leesburg.
The accident that happened shortly after 10:00 a.m. started when an eastbound Chevrolet pickup driven by Mark Archer, 52, of Leesburg, veered off Old SR 15. The truck continued east across the railroad tracks and struck an ornamental Amish buggy before colliding with the Old Leesburg Mill.
Purportedly Archer told police that he blacked out prior to leaving the roadway and crashing into the building. Archer sustained very minor injuries as a result of the crash. However, he was transported to Parkview Hospital in Ft. Wayne at his request for further examination. Archer underwent emergency surgery after it was determined that he had a heart attack. Unfortunately the surgery was unsuccessful and he died as a result.
It was determined that Archer had suffered a heart attack prior to the crash, which caused him to lose consciousness. The Allen County Coroner’s Office conducted a death investigation after the emergency surgery at Parkview Hospital. The Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death as complications stemming from the heart attack and not as a result of the crash.
