Road Closures on East Valley Road due to 2 Separate Traffic Accidents
TRAFFIC COLLISIONS SHUT DOWN EAST VALLEY ROAD IN TWO LOCATIONS: GLEN OAKS TO PARK LANE AND SHEFFIELD TO STONEHOUSE LANE
MONTECITO, CA – East Valley Road is completely closed in two locations this weekend due to separate unrelated vehicle collisions with power poles. Edison workers estimate that the time to repair the latest incident, occurring at 1:27 AM this morning is likely to last up to 3 days.
East Valley between Glen Oaks and Park Lane has been closed since Friday afternoon due to a low speed, non-injury traffic collision with a power pole. Edison crews are continuing to work on the problem to restore their equipment.
A second closure resulted after Montecito Fire equipment responded to a single vehicle accident at 1:27 AM Saturday morning. A Porsche Cayenne was found on its side with significant front end damage and airbag deployment. The driver and any occupants fled the scene.
The vehicle was travelling westbound in the 2200 Block of East Valley Road at a high rate of speed and apparently lost control after crossing the bridge over Romero Creek. Damage to the roadway was noted over 300 feet from where the vehicle was found with debris and other wreckage scattered on both sides of the road. The vehicle came to rest just west of the entrance to Stonehouse Lane after hitting at least 5 large oak trees, splintering an Edison power pole, and damaging telephone, cable and electrical service to nearby residents.
Crews from Edison were on scene in the area, working on damage caused by the traffic accident that had occurred earlier. Edison Crews took immediate steps to begin repairing the high voltage lines servicing the area.
As of 3:00 PM Saturday, East Valley Road between Glen Oaks and Park Lane remains closed to all traffic. Residents affected by this closure should access their properties from the Sheffield side of East Valley Road.
Traffic on East Valley Road between Sheffield and Stonehouse Lane will also be shut down until further notice. Residents west of Sheffield can expect delays and can only access their properties by way of Ortega Ridge Road.
