Hard freeze warning:
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a hard freeze warning...which is in effect from 1 am to 9 am Tuesday. A Lake Wind Advisory has also been issued. This Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from Noon today to 6 pm this evening.
* winds...northwest winds will increase to 15 to 20 mph with gusts
to 25 to 30 mph possible by late this afternoon behind a cold
front.
* temperature...very cold air will affect lake and inland volusia
counties tonight with lows expected into the mid to upper 20s.
northwest winds are expected near 15 mph during the late
night hours. Two to four hours of hard freezing conditions are
possible.
* impacts...the cold temperatures can kill crops and other
tender vegetation if not adequately protected.
Wind chill warning:
The NWS in Melbourne has issued a wind chill warning, which is in effect from 10 pm this evening to 10 am Tuesday. Wind chill values, late night temperatures in the 20s in combination with breezy northwest winds will allow wind chill values to drop into the mid to upper teens late tonight.
Other impacts, very cold wind chill values will pose a hazard to those outdoors without appropriate protection. Dress in layers and wear a hat and gloves if outdoors for any prolonged period of time. Pets are also susceptible to cold weather. Make sure they have adequate shelter indoors.
Precautionary/preparedness actions, A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This could result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
