Wind chill advisory in effect until 6AM Wednesday. Take protective measures for yourself and pets.
The wind chill advisory is in effect until 6AM due to forecasted dangerous cold temperatures and wind. The forecasted wind chill is -15 - -20 degrees with wind out of the west/northwest at 20-25 mph with gust up to 35 mph. Winds are forecasted to drop to 10 mph tonight however in the mean time you are encouraged to take protective measures for yourself, pets, and home.
Tips:
- wear layered clothing and cover as much exposed skin as possible
- avoid exposure to conditions or limit if absolutely necessary
- limit pet exposure to conditions and use protective wear for them as well, especially on their feet
- if you have water pipes in exterior walls assure they stay warm enough not to freeze, allow a continuous trickle to run to limit chance of freezing, or turn water off and drain the pipe
- if using space heaters please follow manufacture directions for safe usage due to risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning
- do not use ovens to heat a home as the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning increases
- Have extra blankets and a charged cell phone in cars in the event of break down
- Bring water/hot beverage in thermos and snacks during travel in the event you become stranded for prolonged time
- Have your car battery and charging system checked as the cold weather stresses these when starting
- Monitor for icing conditions including black ice which can leads to falls, motor vehicle crashes, over weighted structures
- Warming centers are open within our county and surrounding counties
