Railroad Crossings
Blocking railroad tracks is a serious offense that is strictly enforced. Stopping on railroad tracks is a vehicle code violation with a fine that can total $490. Additionally, injuries and deaths, as a result of negligently blocking railroad tracks, are likely to result in felony criminal prosecutions.
Norwalk Sheriff’s Station has several railroad crossings within the cities it services. A major area of concern is the Valley View Grade Separation Project on Valley View Avenue south of Rosecrans Avenue in La Mirada. With the added heavy traffic in the area, motorists are reminded to allow plenty of space between themselves and other vehicles in order to prevent blocking all railroad tracks.
Norwalk Sheriff’s Station polices the City of Norwalk, the City of La Mirada, and unincorporated communities of South and East Whittier.
