On 01/14/2014, Spindale Police responded to an alleged armed robbery and shooting on Davis Street. At approximately 22:30 hrs. Mr. Daniel Reyes contacted Rutherford County 911 stating that he had been the victim of an armed robbery and had been shot by the assailant.

Officers arriving on the scene found Reyes apparently suffering from a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. Reyes was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center where he was admitted for non life-threatening injuries. He was released Wednesday morning.

Further investigation into the incident revealed evidence that indicated the alleged robbery was a hoax perpetrated by Reyes. Video from a nearby business shows that Reyes shot himself in the right shoulder then disposed of the firearm in a storm drain. A .380 caliber pistol was recovered from the storm drain during the investigation.

The investigation into the shooting continues with possible charges pending against Reyes.
