Lakeville Police Officer Involved in Crash
St. Joseph County – At 9:50 a.m. Saturday morning the Indiana State Police responded to a vehicle crash just south of Lakeville involving a pickup truck and a reserve officer with the Lakeville Police Department. The crash happened at US 31 and Quinn Trial.
State police arrived on the scene to find a Lakeville police car, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, had collided with the rear of a 1990 Dodge pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup, Dennis Glick, 31, of South Bend, had just been stopped and ticketed by the Lakeville officer minutes earlier for a traffic offense. Purportedly after Glick was released from the stop he sped away recklessly throwing gravel. The reserve Lakeville officer, Jess E. Fisher, 25, of Lakeville, attempted to stop Glick again when Glick slammed on his brakes and Fisher was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the rear of the pickup.
The pickup truck received minor damage in the crash and Glick was not injured. Officer Fisher was hurt in the crash and transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life threatening injuries. The police car was a total loss.
Glick reported to state police that he was having problems with his brakes and that they locked up causing him to stop abruptly.
At this time state police are continuing their investigation into the crash and truck braking system. Alcohol and road conditions do not appear to be a factor.
