Officers and SWAT respond to barricaded suspect in area of El Dorado/La Rue. Officers got suspect to surrender peacefully.
On 1/19/14 at approximately 5:30 AM, Mission Patrol Officers responded to a call for service in the area of El Dorado/La Rue indicating that a man was driving through the neighborhood yelling obscenities and demanding that the victim exit her home. The suspect eventually backed his van over her wrought iron gate and parked his van in her driveway. He covered the windows of his van preventing responding officers from being able to see inside. The victim told officers that the suspect was known to carry a handgun and that she saw him with one yesterday.
Responding officers and supervisors requested air support and resources needed to investigate the call. Mission Watch-2 and Watch-3 Watch Commanders responded and a formulated a plan to use bean-bag shotgun rounds to shatter the windows of the van. Officers were able to remove enough of the windows to see inside the van.
The suspect was concealed under a seat which made it unsafe for Officers to approach. The suspect stated he had a gun that his finger was on the trigger; officers simultaneously saw a speed loader containing live rounds of ammunition on the seat, near the suspect.
Now facing a potentially armed barricaded suspect, supervisors requested SWAT and maintained containment officers in place. As SWAT was responding to the area, Mission Patrol Officers maintained communication with the suspect and were able to get him to surrender. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered two loaded handguns in the course of their investigation.
