Winter Storm Warning through 6 AM Wednesday - Gov. Declares State of Emergency -Stay off the Roads if possible.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EST WEDNESDAY...

* LOCATIONS...SOUTH CENTRAL CONNECTICUT...PARTS OF THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY AND NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY.

* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 10 INCHES.

* WINDS...NORTH 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

* WIND CHILLS...AS LOW AS 14 BELOW ZERO LATE TONIGHT.

* TEMPERATURES...DROPPING THROUGH TEENS AND INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS BY DAYBREAK.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT.

* TIMING...SNOWFALL WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT...TAPERING OFF EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL OCCUR THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS...FALLING...BLOWING...AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL AND WALKING CONDITIONS ACROSS THE AREA... POSSIBLY IMPACTING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING COMMUTE. PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO FRIGID COLD AND LOW WIND CHILLS COULD CAUSE FROST BITE. DRESS APPROPRIATELY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

Governor Christie Declared a State of Emergency. Please stay off the roads if possible, allow our plows to work and our First Responders to be unobstructed when responding. The safest place to be is indoors. (http://www.state.nj.us/governor/news/news/552014/pdf/EO-147.pdf)


Please keep the following Lyndhurst Township Ordinance regulations in mind:

*Clear fire hydrants near your home / business of snow and ice.
*DO NOT blow or shovel snow into the roadway.
*Observe Snow Emergency Street parking signs.
(No parking allowed on the entire length and both sides of the following streets when snow covered: Chase Avenue, Kingsland Avenue, Orient Way, Page Avenue, Park Avenue, Ridge Road, Riverside Avenue, Rutherford Avenue, Stuyvesant Avenue, Ten Eyck Avenue, and Valley Brook Avenue. Parking on Second Avenue is restricted to both sides between Orient Way and Stuyvesant Avenue. Vehicles are not to be parked on school property. Vehicles that are not removed can be issued summonses and/or towed away by the discretion of the Lyndhurst Police Department.)

Additionally, residents are reminded that in times of power loss not to use their ovens or any auxiliary heating unit which emits carbon monoxide. Such methods of auxiliary heating are also a serious fire hazard.

Help your elderly neighbors / family members with snow and ice removal, and keep a check on them periodically.

During freezing temperatures roadways will become icy, drive safely. If it is not completely necessary, avoid traveling on the roadways.

When outside dress in layers to prevent cold weather related injuries.
