Suspects Arrested: Shooting Death in Parking Lot of Valley College Was Not Associated with Campus Activities - LASD Homicide

UPDATE: 11:00PM, Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014

Suspects Arrested After Parking Lot Shooting near LA Valley College -LASD Homicide

Two suspects were arrested Sunday in San Jacinto by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives investigating the Saturday shooting death of a man in a parking lot in Valley Glen. The victim of the shooting has been identified as Ricardo Zetino, a 31-year old resident of Tujunga.

The shooting occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2013, at approximately 7:25 P.M., in a parking lot of LA Valley College, 5800 Fulton Avenue, (at Burbank Blvd), in Valley Glen, in the east San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. Los Angeles Police Department - Van Nuys Division officers responded to a "shots fired call." Upon their arrival, they discovered the victim outside of a vehicle in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department - Community College Bureau deputies worked with LAPD officers at the scene. Because the campus of LA Valley College is the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Sheriff's Homicide investigators responded to the scene to conduct a homicide investigation.

No classes or campus activities were going on when the shooting occurred and the shooting was not associated with campus activities.

Investigators developed information that the shooting incident was the result of a drug deal "rip-off." The choice of the college parking lot was random.

Information developed by investigators led them to an apartment in the City of San Jacinto in Riverside County, where both suspects were located and arrested without incident.

A search warrant was executed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators at the San Jacinto residence and two revolvers were recovered, along with other ballistic evidence. An undetermined amount of illegal drugs were also seized, as well as the suspects' vehicle, which is believed to have been used during the murder.

Suspects Raheen Taylor, a 31-year old male, and Derrick Wilson, a 25-year old male, were booked at the Inmate Reception Center and are currently being held without bail in the Los Angeles County jail system. Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned at Van Nuys Superior Court on Tuesday, January 28, 2013.
