Steuben County to stay at red Warning level. The WARNING will be in effect until 9:00 A.M. Tuesday January 28th 2014 and going to the Orange level of Watch status at that time. Conditions will be monitored prior to the expiration and the WARNING may be extended should weather conditions deteriorate. Wind speeds are steady at 10-20 miles per hour with gusting near 25 miles per hour causing fast and heavy drifting snow. Winds are expected to be 10-15 MPH tonight and out of the West Southwest. Wind chill temperatures are expected to reach -35 during the night hours. Regular media outlets plus the Sheriff Facebook page, www.steubensheriff.com and Nixle text alerts will be used to alert everyone of any updates.

RECAP: Steuben is under a Red Warning until 9:00 A.M. Tuesday. It will automatically revert to Orange Watch status at that time unless conditions deteriorate causing the status of warning to be extended.

Providing status Orange (watch) occurs Tuesday morning at 9:00 A.M., all county Offices including the court house will open at 10:00 A.M.

• The highest level of local travel advisory, means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a "warning" local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
o (A) refrain from all travel;
o (B) comply with necessary emergency measures;
o (C) cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
o (D) obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.

• Watch
o Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.
