Franklin, TN – Franklin PD’s newest addition to our fleet hits the downtown beat on Wednesday. This smart car will be used by the Department’s civilian Parking Enforcement Officer to patrol downtown-area streets and City parking garages. While assisting Main Street motorists and visitors, FPD’s Parking Enforcement Officer will be on the lookout for violations of the City’s parking ordinances.
"In keeping with Mayor Moore's sustainability goals, we will continue to seek fuel-efficient alternatives when available,” said Chief David Rahinsky. “This will include greater use of our Segways, bicycles, motorcycles, mounted, and foot patrols whenever practical."
The smart car’s 3-cylinder gasoline engine is said to average around 34 mpg in an urban environment.
