Police Investigate Two Deaths
On January 27, 2014, at approximately 1924 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Hastings Drive, in response to a welfare check at a residence. Neighbors reported they had not seen or heard from the residents for several days.
Officers checked the exterior of the residence and found all doors and windows secure. Officers observed a woman inside the residence with obvious signs of injury.
Officers forced entry into the residence and found a 56-year-old deceased female. As officers continued their sweep of the residence they located a 54-year-old male with unknown medical problems. The male was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to a San Jose area hospital for advanced medical care, where he later died.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and collaborated with police investigators.
“No signs of foul play were located, but our detectives are working closely with the coroner’s office on this investigation and we continue to follow every lead. At this point we consider this an isolated incident and we have no concerns of risk to the public.
-Jason Hedden, Police Commander
