PRESS RELEASE: West Side Warsaw Burglary Suspects Charged
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 31, 2014
Warsaw Police investigators have solved a recent west side home burglary and made two (2) arrests. On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, Warsaw Police took a burglary report after the home owner returned home and found the house ransacked and multiple articles missing, including a handgun. A hidden spare key was used to gain entry into the home, which led detectives to family members.
The resulting investigation led investigators to the homeowner’s granddaughter and her boyfriend. Warsaw Police detectives learned that the pair used the hidden key to enter the home to initially steal the grandmother’s prescription medications, but once inside took checkbooks, money, gift cards, purses, a mini fridge, and the Smith and Wesson handgun, among other items.
On Thursday, Warsaw Police detectives interviewed the 18 year old granddaughter, Alexis Henry, of Warsaw, and charged her with burglary to a dwelling, a class B felony. She was also charged with class D felony theft. She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $2,000 surety bond.
Investigators contacted Alexis’ boyfriend, 21 year old, Ritchie Hernandez Jr., also of Warsaw, and recovered all the stolen items, including the handgun which Hernandez had filed off the serial numbers. Hernandez was booked into the jail and charged with: burglary to a dwelling, a class B felony; possession of an altered handgun, a class C felony; and theft, a class D felony. He also had a warrant for failure to appear for a traffic violation out of Marshall County. He is being held with no bond.
Warsaw Police were assisted in their investigation by the Kosciusko County Major Crimes Task Force.
