Advisory

OD Street Dept. announcing limited use of road salt.

Road Salt Shortage Advisory
The cost of salt is rising drastically. It is also very limited right now due to regional priority. This means that it is very difficult for the Town of Ogden Dunes to get more salt to make it through the rest of this challenging winter weather.
The Street Department wishes to inform the residents (and public) of the following so that we all may work together to safely navigate our roads for the remainder of the inclement weather.
During winter storms, please avoid using Hillcrest Road (north of Ogden) and Cedar Trail. Those roads are very hilly and require an exorbitant amount of salt. The Street Department will not be salting those roads during winter storms. When the weather has passed, they will get to those roads as time allows.
It is recommended for residents to use Diana Road and Ogden Road to get across town. Those roads will be clear and salted during storms—they are the priority roads as they are the easiest to navigate for both plows and regular traffic.
If you are concerned about your travel options, please contact the Street Department to discuss. Jim Matthys will be glad to help. Their phone number is 219.763.6755.
The Portage Township Schools Transportation Department is aware of this situation and will be avoiding those roads. If your child's bus stop is on Hillcrest or Cedar Trail, the Street Department recommends that you contact the Portage Township Schools Transportation Department to coordinate your child's transportation. The phone number for Portage Township Schools Transportation Department is 219.763.8080.
