Governor declared a State of Emergency in anticipation of the storm. Lyndhurst Public Schools closed Wednesday 2/5/14.

Power outages are possible due to tree limbs and wires already being covered in snow and ice from the previous storm. Make arrangements ahead of time should power be lost. See below for safety information regarding alternate heat sources.

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM EST WEDNESDAY...

* LOCATIONS...SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA AND PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY.

* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW ALONG WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 6 INCHES...ALONG WITH ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH OF ICE.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES.

* TIMING...SNOW DEVELOPING AFTER MIDNIGHT...THEN MIXING WITH AND CHANGING TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BY LATE MORNING.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL WILL BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL KNOCK DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...SLEET... AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

Please keep the following Lyndhurst Township Ordinance regulations in mind:

*Clear fire hydrants near your home / business of snow and ice.
*DO NOT blow or shovel snow into the roadway.
*Observe Snow Emergency Street parking signs.
(No parking allowed on the entire length and both sides of the following streets when snow covered: Chase Avenue, Kingsland Avenue, Orient Way, Page Avenue, Park Avenue, Ridge Road, Riverside Avenue, Rutherford Avenue, Stuyvesant Avenue, Ten Eyck Avenue, and Valley Brook Avenue. Parking on Second Avenue is restricted to both sides between Orient Way and Stuyvesant Avenue. Vehicles are not to be parked on school property. Vehicles that are not removed can be issued summonses and/or towed away by the discretion of the Lyndhurst Police Department.)

Additionally, residents are reminded that in times of power loss not to use their ovens or any auxiliary heating unit which emits carbon monoxide. Such methods of auxiliary heating are also a serious fire hazard.

Help your elderly neighbors / family members with snow and ice removal, and keep a check on them periodically.

During freezing temperatures roadways will become icy, drive safely.
