A State of Emergency (SOE) has been declared in advance of the storm headed to the Garden State later tonight.

Residents are urged to limit non essential travel especially during the height of the storm. If your vehicle becomes stuck in the snow, notify the Police desk immediately to arrange removal. Abandoned vehicles will be removed to impound so the plows and sanders can open the roadways for travel.

WINTER STORM WARNING FOR THE SADDLE RIVER AREA-

Heavy snow and Icy conditions have been forecast for this powerful weather system. Icy conditions can cause wide spread power outages and delay restoration of power.

Please prepare for power outages in advance and have a plan.
If you loose power notify your power company directly for the most current restoration estimates.

AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL DURING THE NIGHT.

Residents are reminded to remove all vehicles from any Borough or County roadway during the storm and afterwards. This allows for the plow trucks and sanders to do jobs their more efficiently. It also leaves room for emergency vehicles to navigate the slippery roads during calls for service.

* LOCATIONS...SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT...NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE NEW YORK CITY METROPOLITAN AREA AND PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY.

* HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW ALONG WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.
* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 6 INCHES...ALONG WITH ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF INCH OF ICE.
* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER TO ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES.
* TIMING...SNOW DEVELOPING AFTER MIDNIGHT...THEN MIXING WITH AND CHANGING TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BY LATE MORNING.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL WILL BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL KNOCK DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES.
