Advisory

Steuben road condition update

Steuben County roads remained much of the same throughout the night. Diminishing winds reduced drifting, however some secondary roads have portions of drifted snow still. County roads are snow covered with snow/slush build up, State roads remain snow covered and slippery. I69 is mostly clear with a few slippery spots. Some county roads remain at one lane. Steuben County is still at a WATCH travel status with a review of that status at 8:00 AM this morning. An update will be put out shortly thereafter to either extend or change status. Both state and County roads have amounts of snow buildup making lanes on the roadways. These lanes can cause a vehcile to be pulled in different directions. Driving slower than normal will help with this type travel. Some intersections have snow pile build up making visibility difficult when. Please be extra careful at intersections today until highway crews can get those pushed back.

Please remember after daylight hours to make certain you operate with your regular low beam headlights on. Many vehicles have automatic light systems that may or may not have good head lighting (daylight running lights only) and not allow any tail lights to be activated. Ensuring your headlights are fully activated allows for both regular headlights and tail lights to be activated. This assists greatly with other motorists seeing you in the white covered road conditions as well as snow plow drivers. Allow plenty of travel time, drive slower than normal and allow plenty of distance between you and other motorists should you require to travel. Travel is restricted to essential and emergency travel only.

WATCH
Means that conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a "watch" local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.
