A local man was arrested late Monday after allegedly attacking his wife at their home, hitting her several times.
Steven Eugene Ellis, 38, of 351 Kight Trail, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 11:30 p.m. and charged with third-deg ree domestic battery, which would normally be a misdemeanor but was classified as a felony, punishable by up to six years in prison, because he was previously convicted of domestic battery in 2010 in Arkadelphia.
He was still being held without bond Wednesday and is set to appear Feb. 25 in Garland County District Court.
According to reports, Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Clayton Green responded to the residence and made contact with the suspect, identified as Ellis, standing outside and he told Green “nothing was going on.”
When Green spoke to the victim, 38, he noted she had several injuries, including swelling to her left eye, a cut lip, red marks on her face and blood on her feet.
The victim initially stated she had fallen, but then told Green Ellis had hit her several times as she tried to fight him off.
Ellis was taken into custody at the scene without further incident.
