Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of one man and the injury of another male on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. The incident occurred at approximately 6:54pm on the 8800 block of South Vermont Avenue, unincorporated Los Angeles.

 

Detectives learned that the 36-year-old victim was escorting his wife to church when he stopped to talk to the second victim near a parking lot entrance. As the two men conversed, the suspect (male Black, adult) confronted both victims with a firearm. After a brief exchange the suspect opened fire on both victims. One victim immediately fell wounded to the ground as the second victim ran off only a short distance before falling to the ground wounded as well. 

 

The suspect left on foot and was last seen running west-bound on 89th Street (West of Vermont Avenue). 

 

Both victims were transported a local hospital where the 36-year-old victim was pronounced dead and the other was in critical condition.
