News Release: Dig Out Fire Hyrdants

CITY REMINDS RESIDENTS TO DIG OUT HYDRANTS
Rockford Chief of Public Safety Dave Jones is asking residents to clear snow from around fire hydrants near their homes. Jones said he has heard too many stories this winter from other communities having firefighters who had trouble locating hydrants or had to spend several critical minutes clearing snow from around the hydrants at a fire scene.
“Because of the unusual amount of snowfall this winter we are asking residents to come together as a community to help clear snow from hydrants near their home”, Jones said.
The City Public Services Department have been out in full force clearing roads and intersections this winter, leaving no opportunity to assist residents with hydrant and sidewalk clearing. It is very important for everyone to work together to assure our safety, Jones said.
If you are unsure of the location of fire hydrants near your home, you are encouraged to contact the City of Rockford at 866-1537.
