An intoxicated local man was arrested late Saturday after allegedly attacking his girlfriend and dragging her into her residence.
Ron Ray Berryhill Jr., 33, who lists an address of 920 Ridgeway St., was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. at his girlfriend’s residence in the 100 block of Bill House Trail and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
He was initially held without bond, but had bonded out as of Monday and is set to appear Feb. 25 in district court.
According to reports, GCSD Cpl. Josh Cannon, Cpl. Bennie Strickland and Deputy David Terry were dispatched to the Bill House residence in reference to a disorderly person and upon arrival made contact with Berryhill and the alleged victim, 35, who were sitting in the living room.
They noted Berryhill was “extremely loud” and had an odor of intoxicants coming from him. The victim, who stated she was the suspect’s girlfriend of three years, stated he had attacked her.
She states she had gone to sleep and the suspect came into her room, woke her up and told her it was time to go to sleep and for her to take her pants off. She said she was irritated about being awakened and told him to leave her alone.
She states he removed her pants, so she turned on the light to find a lighter to have a cigarette and he turned it off. She turned it back on and he allegedly became angry and told her to leave the house.
She states she went outside and Berryhill followed her out and attacked her, knocking her to the ground. Then he dragged her back inside while continuing to “scuffle” with her. The deputies noted the victim sustained scratches to the right side of her face and neck and the left side of her chest. The victim declined medical attention.
After he was arrested, the deputies noted the suspect became “extremely uncooperative” and had to be told several times to stand up and resisted having his shoes put on him. He was told to start walking and allegedly attempted to pull away forcing Strickland to take him to the ground “with minimal force.”
Berryhill told the deputies the victim was claiming he attacked her because she had wrecked his pickup earlier and she thought he was going to leave her. The victim noted the suspect had been drinking all day.
