Snow Storm Forecast for Wednesday night through Thursday night
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area, which is in effect from late Wednesday night thorough late Thursday night. This storm is currently forecast to bring heavy wet snow with moderate winds. This forecast is still early and may change depending upon the track of the storm.
The snow will develop late Wednesday night and will continue during the day Thursday before tapering off Thursday night. Snow accumulations of 6 to 10+ inches are expected, with the potential for locally higher amounts. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s.
Winds of 15-25 MPH, with gusts of 30-35 MPH, will create near blizzard conditions at times. Visibilities will be limited to one-quarter to one-half mile at times.
The snowfall will make travel treacherous on Thursday so please limit your travel to emergencies and critical matters. In addition, heavy wet snow may cause some weak, flat roof structures to collapse. Trees and power lines will also be susceptible to falling. Treat all downed power lines as live.
Take the time to prepare for this snow storm now so that you can limit your need to travel during the storm. For updates you can go to: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/okx/
An updated Nixle message on this Winter Storm will be provided on Wednesday afternoon.
