Advisory

Montclair Police are attempting to locate a theft suspect posing as a City employee.

On 02/10/14 the suspect identified as George Tate, contacted the victim and told her he was an employee of the City and was sent to clean up her front yard, which had clutter from a tenant moving out. He told her she needed to pay for this service. The victim questioned Tate, who later admitted he was not an employee of the City, but still asked if he could clean her yard. The victim agreed and paid Tate. Tate left the location and never returned. It is believed the Tate may have used this ruse before.

George Tate is not an employee of the City of Montclair and anyone who encounters him soliciting at their home is encouraged to call the Montclair Police Department at (909) 621-4771. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can call the WeTip Hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27463) or you may leave information on the WeTip website at www.wetip.com. Callers providing information leading to arrest and conviction may also be eligible for a $1000 reward.
